The first cold evening arrived before anyone was ready. AUTUMN FIESTA went onto the table, and the house answered with candles, pears and the last bright leaves from the garden.
A centrepiece found, not bought
The linen square provided the colour; everything else came from nearby. A chipped bowl held pears, small branches cast shadows across the cloth and three mismatched candles made the centre glow. The table felt abundant without becoming crowded.
Children added acorns from their pockets. Someone placed a red apple exactly where a designer might have objected. It belonged there because the season did.
Seasonal decorating is simply noticing what the world is already offering.
Let the month enter the room
October did not need to be represented perfectly. It needed to be welcomed: in linen, fruit, amber light and the first shared soup of the cold season. The little tablecloth held it all like a cheerful invitation to notice the present moment.
